TOOLS
Sewing Machine
These examples of experiential design were created for two different shows at SOIL Gallery. They are some of my first experimentations with creating work for the physical environment.
ENVELOPING
Enveloping was part of a show called Speak and Spell at SOIL Gallery. It was comprised of hundreds of envelopes sewn together to create curtains. Security envelopes use printed patterns and windows to reveal and conceal information. These curtains became a way to both entice viewers and share the content of the show.
LIGHT
As I worked I placed the growing curtains in my studio window and discovered the quality of light produced by the securty envelopes
IMAGINATION HUT
The Imagination Hut was a project conceived of by Kelly Froh and myself as part of the show we curated with Jessica Hoffman called Art to Read at Soil Gallery. It was the synthesis of a blanket fort and a reading room where the audience scavenged through crates, pockets, and pouches, excavating small press treasures and reading them with lanterns in the cozy structure. I was the project director and designed the structure that was sewn by 10 women. I also designed and installed the window vinyl and was the installation foreman.
